Writers, weather and a landscape that refuses to stay in the background.
Porous Borders was made without a product or fixed script to determine its shape. We followed writers across the Elmley Nature Reserve marshes to explore what open, flat land does to language, attention and creative work.
That meant allowing the film to be found through observation. Conversations, silences, changing light, wind and the physical scale of the landscape all became narrative material. In the edit, the writers’ voices and the rhythm of the marshes were brought together, creating a film and series of stills in which place does not simply illustrate the story; it helps author it.
